For the last week, we’ve been in Ehrenberg Arizona. If you’ve never heard of Ehrenberg, neither had we. Ehrenberg is located along Interstate 10 on the Arizona California line.
Ehrenberg is also located on the Mountain and Pacific time zone line. In fact, we have reason to believe the time zone literally runs through our bedroom. Other Half and I both charge our iPhones on our nightstands. We both set the phones as clocks. Every night, as we lay side by side, my phone shows Pacific Time and his phone shows Mountain Time. Weird. We’ve had time zone challenges before, but this is a new one.
In Ehrenberg, we’re staying at a place called Arizona Oasis RV Resort. The campground has a spectacular location along the banks of the Colorado River.
It’s also located about 20 minutes from Quartzsite AZ. Quartzite is a popular place for winter RV boondocking. Boondocking, or dry camping, is camping without hookups. Not our thing.
Quartzsite is known for gem shows and swap meets. A very large RV Show and Swap Meet is held every year in January. In 2015 we attended the Q with thousands of our new BFFs. It’s the first place we ever saw dog strollers.
The Q is a totally different place in late November. We spent an afternoon checking out flea markets, on our own, with no traffic and ample parking.
Other Half made a new friend.
So did I. It was fun to experience the Q without the crowds.
We also spent an afternoon in Parker Arizona. Parker is about 45 miles from Ehrenberg. We were looking to entertain ourselves and didn’t have high hopes. We ended up at the BlueWater Casino. BlueWater is an “Enterprise of the Colorado River Indian Tribes.” The casino is small and for some reason felt welcoming to me.
We joined the casino’s club, enjoyed a buy one-get-one lunch and a free $10 each on our membership cards. I sat down at a penny slot machine with my free $10 and $1 of my own money. I got up with $112. Other Half lost his free $10. Not complaining. We don’t often come out ahead when entertaining ourselves.
While in Ehrenberg, we spent our third Thanksgiving on the road. Holidays on the road are weird but we make the best of it. Check out the wine glasses. We cooked a turkey breast in the crockpot. It came out great. We’ve been eating turkey ever since. Everybody knows the best leftovers are Thanksgiving leftovers.
One of the best things about camping here are the spectacular sunsets over the Colorado River.
Mother Nature, as usual, continues to impress.
