When we left Las Vegas we headed to Yuma Arizona. Yuma is located in the southwestern corner of Arizona. Sections of the road to Yuma are very rolly, so rolly that our clothes were knocked off the closet rod – first time that’s ever happened.
We spent the last 10 days at a place called Fortuna De Oro RV Park. Fortuna De Oro is a 55 and up place full of Baby Boomers avoiding the snow. Our kind of people. We stayed here last year for a few days.
Yuma is a serious snowbird community. The snowbird numbers hit around 100,000 annually. Considering Yuma’s population is in the 90,000’s, that’s a big number. Lots of the snowbirds, at least at Fortuna, have ATV’s. The area is ideal for off road fun. We were jealous.
One of Yuma’s claim to fame is reasonably priced spiffing up of your Big Rig. Our Big Rig was in serious need. There are several companies ready and willing to wash and hand wax your rig. Other Half picked one and set it up. By our second day in Yuma, the Big Rig was ready to impress.
The two of us, on the other hand, not so much.
Sometimes you just gotta lay low.
We spent our time in Yuma not really doing much. It’s not like we had a conversation about laying low, it’s just how the time played out. We were both fine with it.
We did manage to do a few things, just nothing too adventurous. So why bother sharing our non-adventurous life? I’ve given that some thought. One thing we’ve learned about life on the road – it’s still life. When we decided to disrupt our comfortable regular life and head out on this adventure – we defined adventure as whatever came our way. That means the exciting stuff, the boring stuff, the annoying stuff, the sad stuff, all of it.
This blog is about sharing our adventures on the road – so here goes…
We dealt with an annoying crapped out ice maker – even after paying big bucks to have it fixed in Vegas. Next attempt will be in San Diego. We took ourselves to the resort restaurant and bar several times. We could walk there from our site and the food was good.
We admired the super moon with the rest of world.
We rode our bikes a solid 5 miles most days. (One of us wearing a helmet and one of us not.) Other Half tried his hand at Pickle Ball. My still unstable ankle kept me off the court. We went to a movie, Dr Strange, and consumed a vat of hot buttered popcorn for dinner. We spent a windy morning at the Arizona Market Place, which is good-sized flea market and swap meet full of RV gizmos.
Rigby enjoyed the dog park and long walks every day.
And we never missed a happy hour. Fortune De Oro has happy hour around the pool Monday through Friday. Drinks, any drinks, are $2 each. How can you go wrong with $2 drinks?
We also spent a lot of time discussing our future. We tend to do that when alcohol is involved. Consensus, for the moment, more of the same. Life is good.
