It’s been awhile, but we are finally back on the open road. Both Other Half and I have missed the thrill of 150 gallon fill ups and white-knuckle turns. We have spent the last few months in our home state of Ohio. We got lucky and found a great place in Walbridge, Ohio to call home for the summer. Ohio is where much of our family and many of our friends reside. After 7 months on the open road, it was time to reconnect.
A lot has happened since we left Florida in June with our new Big Rig. Based on our previous experience as owners of a Winnebago Big Rig, we knew there was a likelihood of a “gremlin” phase. I wrote about our Winnebago gremlin phase here. Our new Big Rig, a Tiffin Motor Allegro Bus, did not disappoint.
It seems the new Big Rig’s whatchamacallit was discombobulated causing water to show up where it’s not welcome. This became apparent after several days of torrential downpours. By the third day water was making an appearance INSIDE the Big Rig. This happened right after Other Half and I had spent the afternoon gloating about how watertight our new rig was. Spoke too soon.
The water was unnerving, at least for me. When your rig is your home home, and not just your vacation home, leaks are extra unnerving, especially when the leaks are on the substantial side. Ours were.
The passenger side window required a beach towel to soak up the water that came through the seal. (I use the word “seal” lightly.) The giant slide-out on the passenger side also leaked. The slide-out leak caused the microwave to take on the appearance of an indoor waterfall. Not so good.
Other Half took it all in stride. He added the leaks to the top of his list of needed repairs and headed off for Red Bay, Alabama. Red Bay is the home of Tiffin Motors. Rigby and I opted out of the trip. We went to my sister’s condo for a week of couch sleeping and popcorn for dinner. I love popcorn.
The good folks at Tiffin Motors treated him right. They fixed the water leaks, as well as the dozen or so other annoyances he had discovered. They even replaced our microwave. Something about water and electronics not mixing so well. All in all we were pleased with their service.
So far we love the new Big Rig. The king-sized bed is a marriage saver. The bigger closet and the double sink make this wife much happier. A girl’s gotta have her space. Other Half is happy with the independent steering and the increased horsepower. Life is good.
We are heading east to spend time with family and friends. First stop Cooperstown, New York.
