This morning we left our new favorite overnight stop, Walmart, and headed west across the desert, still on Interstate 10. Today the wind was mild, which apparently is something of a rarity. We passed enough dust storm warning and zero visibility signs to get the message. Dust storms are serious business. Happy to skip that experience.
Our 350 mile travel day landed us in Casa Grande, Arizona at a 55+ RV Resort. We are the youngsters (at least one of us) which doesn’t happen often.
My shotgun seat was much more comfortable today since my other half mentioned my seat has a foot rest. A foot rest? I’m a person who ALWAYS wants my feet up and he’s just now sharing this critical piece of info? This changes everything. Rigby and I are much happier travelers.
At least I am. Rigby’s day wasn’t quite so good. She’s a pooch that has never been a good traveler. Previous to our open road adventure, she went exactly two places – the groomer and the vet. Neither her favorite. Today she had her first bout of car sickness. Not fun, but she’s all good now.
The day’s drive brought mountain views, abundant cotton fields, pecan and walnut tress, (no clue which is which) some very cool cactus, precariously perched boulders and a debate about trains.
The train debate centered around red cabooses and required an expert to resolve. Our good friend Ron is a retired railroader. He explained (via text) that old style cabooses are gone but a stripped down version is sometimes used. This is sad news. Not only did I lose the debate, but there are no more red cabooses. How did this happen?
Tomorrow we complete this leg of our journey and arrive in Menifee, California. The goal is to spend the holidays with our daughter Meg and her pooch Beesly.
