I’m one week into my clod gene incident. The week has felt l-o-n-g. It included Christmas, which was weird. Other Half and Daughter did a great job pitch-hitting for dinner. The menu was streamlined, but contained the essentials – Seafoam Salad, a family tradition; Prime Rib and mashed sweet potato/red potatoes. We also had pumpkin pie from Ralph’s.
It was challenging for me to supervise from the couch with my foot elevated. I’m sure Other Half and Daughter didn’t enjoy it either. In an exasperated moment, Daughter told me I was picking fights for 2 solid days. She’s right. I think my testy side might have slipped out once or twice. The good news is that we got through it and the Prime Rib was good.
In an ironic twist, my Christmas gift from Other Half was a Fitbit Flex. I had big plans to set Fitbit records over the two months we’re scheduled to be here. So much for plans.
The Fitbit Flex is a step up from the FitBit Zip I’ve been using. The Flex is a wristband. The Zip I kept clipped to my bra. In order to sync it you had to tap it. Other Half said I looked like I had constant heartburn tapping my Zip all the time.
I’m now wearing my Fitbit Flex and if you’ve ever wondered how many calories couch sitting burns, I can tell you – it’s about 1200. I also take about 1100 steps a day going from the couch to the bathroom and back. Big Rig living has it’s advantages when distance is a factor.
The Big Rig is about 350 square feet. That’s about 10% of what we lived in in our previous life. We call it the 90/10 plan. We got rid of 90% of our possessions and live in about 10% of the space. Works for us.
Even though my step count is nothing to brag about, I’m wearing my Fitbit Flex to keep myself in the Fitbit frame of mind. I won’t be gimping forever and when I’m able I’l be back kicking butt with my step count.
Today was my first post-op doctor’s appointment. I was hopeful he’d remove my 30+ staples, but no luck. He wants to give the incisions another week. He removed the fiberglass cast. My foot is gross. There’s no other way to put it. It’s swollen and disgusting. I took pics but I’m not going to subject you to them.
Joey, the tech, X-rayed my foot. The Doc gave the nod of approval. The bones are aligned well and healing like they should. The Doc plans to remove one of the screws at about the 6-week point. The screw is holding the damaged ligament in place. He feels it’s best to remove it since the whole point of an ankle is mobility. I agree. But I’m not excited about a second surgery.
Today I was fitted with a stylish walking boot. It’s held together with extreme Velcro. I accidentally Velcro’d myself to the rug trying to get the boot on the first time.
My foot has to be wrapped with an Ace bandage before the boot goes on. The boot allows me to walk – sort of. Doc does not want me on it much, but at least I can get to the bathroom without the walker. It’s still best to keep it elevated, definitely cuts down on the pain.
Considering my current situation, I think I’ll let Other Half wait on me for another couple weeks. Seems like a good plan. I’ll try not to pick a fight.
