Friday morning we packed up and left sunny Mesa, Arizona and headed to sunny Quartzsite, Arizona. Notice the “sunny” theme in our travels. Other Half is a serious weather watcher and determined to keep us in sunny, warm weather. I’m good with that. We are camped at Arizona Sun RV Resort.
Before we left Mesa we spent a great afternoon with our friends Mike and Donna Kuper. Mike and Donna are also full time RV’ers. They have been on the road since July of 2013. In fact, they were an inspiration in our new lifestyle.
It’s funny how things happen. Donna and I became friends through Send Out Cards several years ago. When I first heard about their plans to move into an RV full time, I thought they were crazy. I couldn’t imagine living in such a small space let alone getting rid of all your stuff.
In fact, we took the opportunity to buy their stuff. We bought Donna’s very large, very cool bookcase. I happily loaded it up with my massive book collection. It looked amazing in our great room for about a year – and then it was our turn to get rid of stuff.
We made the big decision to move into the Big Rig in early 2014. It took us the better part of the year to make it happen. For the record, we kept the massive bookcase we bought from Donna. It’s tucked away in our 10×10 climate controlled storage unit back in Oregon, Ohio. Since I kept more books than I should have (per Other Half), it just made sense (to me anyway) to also keep the bookcase.
Other Half is convinced we stored way too much. I’m not sure yet. For kicks we make predictions on the percentage of our storage we’ll look at later and say “What the heck were we thinking?” Time will tell.
Quartzsite is the home of a gigantic RV show and flea market. That’s why we’re here. We’re excited to checkout the newest can’t-live-without RV gizmos and gadgets and meet fellow open road enthusiasts. Should be fun.
