We spent the weekend here in Red Bay, Alabama. Tiffin Motorhomes is a longtime resident of the city of Red Bay. It’s Tuesday. We arrived last Wednesday. Wanda, the scheduler, did tell us to expect to be here a week or so. Looks like Wanda knows her stuff.
We’re camped at the Tiffin Allegro campground. This place is a former airport that’s been converted to a full hook-up campground. No grass. No trees. Lots of concrete and gravel. Nothing fancy, but it works. It’s kind of cool to be surrounded by rigs of the same lineage. Other Half tells me this is what a ‘Rally’ would be like. Ok.
Since we’ve been here, Other Half has spent his time talking to the guys about interesting stuff like rigging up an easier way to flush our black tank. If you don’t know what a black tank is – think disgusting and gross – that’s it.
I’ve spent my time getting to know the women in the pet-friendly waiting area. We’ve talked about missing our grandkids, finding dog groomers on the road and hair color. The hair color conversation got quite animated with six of the seven women proclaiming their undying loyalty. One woman declared, “As long as there’s color in a bottle, there will never be gray on my head.”
I was the seventh. I sat quietly as I gave up coloring my hair almost two years ago.
A lot happens here Monday through Friday. The rigs are coming and going from the service bays. As fast as finished ones leave the campground, new ones come in. It’s an impressive system. Wanda seems to be the linchpin. Come 4:00 pm Friday afternoon, everything stops. Time to find something to do.
We amused ourselves over the weekend by tooling around checking out the area. We located a grocery store over the state line in Mississippi that sold beer. That made us happy.
The scenery is nice. I’m always on the lookout for wildlife, but we didn’t see any. No deer, no turkeys and no eagles. Other Half told me there are wild boar in the area. He could be making that up, but a wild boar would be exciting to see.
We drove into downtown Red Bay and stopped at the Tiffin factory. It was the weekend, so of course, it was closed. Other Half decided to ask the guard if we could walk around on our own.
Surprisingly, the guard agreed and signed us in. It was fun to be the only people milling around this huge facility.
Not sure how much longer we’ll be in Red Bay. We still have a couple things unfinished. No complaints as the people here are friendly and accommodating. We did spot a Mexican restaurant in Belmont Mississippi. Crossing our fingers they serve margaritas.
