Last Saturday Other Half and I made a big move in the Big Rig. We packed up our zero gravity recliners, retracted our slide outs, hitched up the Equinox and moved 20 miles. 20 miles might not sound like much, but moving the Big Rig, whether it’s 20 feet or 20 miles requires the same prep.
The reason for the move was an adjusted timeline. We decided to stay in SoCal for another two weeks. Our original plan was to leave the day before Easter and head southeast. That plan had one slight snafu – we would have been leaving just shy of our North Hollywood daughter’s B-day. A plan not likely to garner parents-of-the-year accolades.
We are now situated at the Palm Springs Thousand Trails RV Park. This place is a literal oasis in the desert. There are lots and lots of very tall palm trees. It’s beautiful. This is a true campground, not a campground attached to a retirement community (not that that’s bad).
We were excited to get out of the wind of Caliente Springs. We had made an earlier scouting trip to Thousand Trails. We drove through the campground observing still palms. A good sign. We left feeling confident our 20 mile move would solve our wind and blowing sand situation.
Not exactly working out that way.
Last night we had 35 mph winds. The sand here is soft and fine. It’s like a beach except for the no water part. Soft sand and 35 mph winds are not a good mix. Other Half and I are about done with the desert.
