Everybody knows Cooperstown, New York is all about baseball. And everybody who knows me, knows that baseball and I have a tepid relationship. We get along, but there’s not much of a spark. Other Half has more than a spark for baseball, he has a deep love and respect for the game. Kind of works out, since I have a deep love and respect for him. A day at the Baseball Hall of Fame made our agenda.
But for me, upstate New York is all about time with Carolyn, one of my best friends. Carolyn and I have 20+ years of history. The two of us are part of a small group of GF’s that started as a writers group. We met weekly at B&N (Barnes & Nobles) for years. Our little B&N crew have gone from fellow writers to lifetime besties.
Carolyn is the owner of Riverhorse Farms, a 10.77 acre piece of paradise. Riverhorse is tucked into the rolling hills of upstate New York. It’s the kind of place where just being there inspires you.
There’s no noise and no traffic jams, except those caused by manure trucks, turkey flocks or Amish buggies. Made me want to slow down and take it all in. (Wine, Guinness and her giant lap pool/hot tub might have contributed to the slowdown.)
We camped about 45 minutes from the farm at Cooperstown KOA. The owner of the campground supplied us with 6 ears of fresh picked sweetcorn everyday, made for some great dinners.
