Today we met Santa. We also met Mrs. Claus and Frosty the Snowman. We met them in the parking lot of a local burger joint. They were getting burgers and fries to go. Even Santa gets hungry.
We’re finding it challenging to get in the holiday spirit. This is our first holiday in the desert southwest. We KNOW it’s December and Christmas is right around the corner, it just doesn’t feel like it. There’s plenty of holiday music, and the local mall is crowded. All the usual stuff. Just not the same without cold weather, a Christmas tree and family and friends.
Other Half, realizing I was feeling a little blue, decided to decorate the Big Rig. He headed off to Home Depot and returned with two strings of colored lights. This is a big effort from the guy who for the past several years has refused to hang lights of any kind, for any reason.
I do feel better.
What matters is that we are together. Daughter is back with her pooch Beesly and we even have a couple presents. After downsizing to the extreme, we decided to forgo serious gifts this year.
What makes this holiday super weird is that we’re missing our Christmas crew. You know who you are. Please know, we may not be there in person, but we’re there in spirit and you are all in our hearts forever.
