There’s a lot more to Vegas than the Strip. Of course, everybody knows that. But did you know within 20 miles of the strip are some of the ‘reddest’ rock you’ll ever see. It’s called Red Rock Canyon and WOW is it true to its name.
Other Half and I decided to take the scenic drive and check it out. We use our Chevy Equinox for sightseeing when we’re camped. The only downside is that there are LOTS of beige Chevy Equinox on the road. I tried to get into the wrong one at the canyon overlook. I think I was so inspired by the view I didn’t notice a strange man in the driver’s seat. Oops.
Our Bucket Buddies (friends from Ohio) had gone earlier. They had blue skies. We had gray, but it didn’t matter. It was still awe inspiring.
The other great thing about Vegas are friends. We spent an afternoon with our great friends Bob & Betty Ann Golden. They opened their beautiful home to us. We enjoyed conversation, laughs and the best cappuccino around.
Another cool thing about Vegas are the shows. Yes, everybody knows that. But did you know standing in line for a show (or anything) in Vegas just about guarantees you’ll meet people from Ohio? So far, every line we’ve been in has included fellow Buckeyes. We Buckeyes get around.
The show we saw was The Jersey Boys. It’s the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. For those of us of a certain generation, the show felt like a warm hug. The Bucket Buddies all loved it. We left the theatre with tears glinting in our eyes. It was great.
Today is New Year’s Eve. We are heading out shortly to join the 350,000 other partiers in Vegas right now. I’m betting there are lots of Buckeyes in town. Should be fun!
