Other Half and I are a sucker for a guided tour, especially in cities with crazy traffic and no where to park. San Diego qualifies. If you throw in a trolley car it’s a done deal. We happily forked over $35 bucks a piece for the Old Town Trolley “Hop On Hop Off” ticket. Money well spent.
We started our day in the parking lot of Old Town San Diego — parked near this beauty. You gotta wonder how can this thing be street legal, even in California. After further inspection we determined it’s not. No plates and no room for an actual driver. Must be there to amuse tourist. It worked.
Our trolley driver, Doug, was funny and informative. He whisked us through the city and filled our heads with interesting facts, many of which we couldn’t hear. It didn’t matter. We took in the sites and took pics while hanging out the window.
We opted to hop off at Balboa Park. The last time we were at Balboa Park was on our honeymoon. (Our honeymoon was a cross country motorcycle trip that took us to California and back.) We have fond memories of Balboa Park. This place is jewel. We especially enjoyed the cactus in the Alcazar Garden.
We finished our day at the Coyote Cafe feeling grateful for our Big Adventure in the Big Rig. Life is good.
